About Geoff Howe

I’m Geoff Howe, a corporate event photographer based in Victoria, BC. For over 25 years I’ve covered conferences, government relations, national news, and association events across Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland.

My approach is rooted in decades of photojournalism experience, a background that trained me to anticipate key moments, and capture the real story on stage and behind the scenes.

Fast-Paced Newsroom Experience

My path began in 1999 as a newspaper darkroom technician, processing film and scanning images on tight deadlines. That early work sparked a respect for visual storytelling and the team effort that happens behind the scenes.

Eventually, I moved up to a staff photojournalist position and later freelanced for national wire agencies including the Canadian Press and Reuters. Covering breaking news across Western Canada, such as major events like the Stanley Cup Riots, taught me how to think on my feet. In photojournalism there are no second takes or do-overs; you learn to read a room instantly and stay composed under pressure.

Victoria Events & Government Relations

In 2011, I accepted a role as staff photographer for the University of Victoria. That shift bridged the gap between my editorial experience and the marketing and communications needs of large institutions.

Since 2013, I’ve built my full-time event photography business serving Victoria’s corporate and public sector clients, regularly working alongside elected officials, executives, and corporate boards.

Over the years, that work has included everything from international multi-day conferences to advocacy at the BC Legislature, trade shows, press conferences, award galas, and executive headshots.
